Loving Dog Rescues Echidna Puggle
A routine Sunday evening turned into an extraordinary tale of instinct and compassion when an 11-year-old Jack Russell named Poppy made an unexpected discovery—a tiny, underweight echidna puggle weighing just 103 grams.
Poppy’s owner had noticed something unusual:
“She didn’t come to feed the horses with me, which is very unlike her. Later, she rushed back home from the yards, and I knew something was up. I checked under her dog house and there she was—curled protectively around a tiny puggle like it was her own pup.”

This wasn’t the first time Poppy had shown her nurturing side. She had previously cared for lambs, hares, and birds. But this time, her maternal instincts may have put the little one at risk—dogs have a much higher body temperature than echidnas, which can be dangerous for such a fragile creature.
The puggle, now affectionately named Lordy, was carefully removed and transported to safety. Despite its rough start, Lordy is feeding well and showing promising signs of recovery.
🦔 “We’re hopeful this little one will make a full recovery. Poppy’s heart was in the right place—and thanks to her, Lordy has a second chance.”
